Dr David Maurice
14 September 1950 – 7 May 2025

It is with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Dr David Maurice who was a Partner at Marlborough Medical Practice from 1980 to 2009, from the days when the practice was based on the High Street. Several current KAMP team members remember working with Dr David Maurice, Dr Nick Maurice and Dr Pam Tulloch.

“Dr David” was the last in a remarkable line of doctors who faithfully served the people of Marlborough, Wiltshire, for over two centuries. His retirement in 2009 marked the end of an extraordinary unbroken chain of Maurice doctors that began when his great-great-great-grandfather, Dr Thelwell Maurice, joined the local practice in 1792. The family’s long and devoted service to the town once earned them a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the longest continuous medical practice by a single family. Dr David’s retirement was covered by all of the main daily newspapers at the time.

So ingrained was the Maurice legacy in Marlborough that patients referred to the doctors by their first names—Dr David’s father was known as Dr Dick, his uncle as Dr Tim, and his cousin as Dr Nick. Dr David himself joined the family practice in 1980, becoming the sixth generation to carry on the tradition.

Beyond medicine, Dr David was a man of deep faith and service. Ordained as a deacon in 2001 and as a priest in 2002, he served as a non-stipendiary minister within the Marlborough Anglican Team. Following his retirement from general practice, he continued to devote his time and energy to the Church and the community he loved.

Dr David leaves behind a community grateful for his care, compassion, and steadfast presence. He will be remembered not only as a skilled and trusted physician but also as a man of integrity, humility, and quiet devotion.

Our sympathies go to his wife Rachel and all his family and friends.
