How to look after yourself in the heat
- Drink plenty of cold drinks. Avoid caffeine, alcohol or sugary drinks.
- Wee clear once a day. If your urine is dark or you are not going to the toilet you may be dehydrated.
- Avoid being outside in the heat. Wear a hat and sun cream and stay in the shade.
- Use a damp cloth or flannel to cool yourself.
- Close windows and curtains during the day. This will prevent the room heating up at the same rate as the outside temperature.
- Open windows in the early morning or evening when it is cooler.
- Stay in the coolest part of the house, especially to sleep (if possible).
- Make sure the heating is off.
- Ensure all electrical items are turned off when not in use.
- Medicines need to be stored at 25 degrees or below. They may need to be stored in the fridge.
