NHS Health Checks

NHS Health Checks

Are you up to date ?

NHS Health Checks are offered to people who are aged 40 to 74 who do not have any other types of health reviews (for example diabetic or asthma reviews). You will be invited by letter for a health check every 5 years between the ages of 40 and 74.

The check takes about 20 minutes and usually includes:

  • measuring your height and weight
  • measuring your waist
  • blood pressure test
  • cholesterol test, and possibly a blood sugar level test, which is usually a finger-prick blood test. You may be asked to have a blood test at or before the NHS Health Check

You’ll also be asked some questions about your health including:

  • whether any of your close relatives have had any medical conditions
  • if you smoke, and how much
  • if you drink alcohol, and how much
  • how much physical activity you do

Minor Operations

Dr Richard Hook holds minor operation clinics when there are a sufficient number of patients on the list, for some moles, warts, cysts etc.. Please book with any GP in the first instance who will assess you for suitability before adding you to the list.

Joint Injections are administered by Dr Vivek Singh.

Child Health & Immunisations

Child Health & Immunisations

Once a new mum and baby have had their 6-week check at the practice, we will telephone you to book baby’s first immunisation from 8 weeks. Trained practice nurses take a sympathetic and kind approach to giving these important injections against common but potentially harmful diseases.
